Following the departure of José Mourinho, many names are circulating to resume the position in Manchester, but a favorite remains: Zinedine Zidane.
It’s a small earthquake that the Premier League is experiencing at the beginning of this week. After 17 days of championship, José Mourinho was finally thanked by his management, Manchester United. With a sixth place in the standings, 19 points behind the Liverpool leader, the Red Devils are already out of the race for the title, as the Portuguese had also admitted.
Qualified in the round of 16 Champions League, the Mancunians face Paris Saint-Germain from February 12, and it is another coach who will be in charge. If Michael Carrick should indeed be acting until the end of the current season, United will start on a new basis next summer.
A champion’s CV:
This new cycle is likely to be with a more experienced coach than just retired from the club. Among all the names announced, Zinedine Zidane appears as the most serious candidate, the French having already been announced a few months ago. His resume speaks for him first, with a monstrous coaching debut.
In two and a half seasons, the Z has won everything with Real Madrid, except the King’s Cup, picking up three consecutive league leagues, a first in history for a coach. In other words, the 1998 world champion has nothing to prove.
Ready for a new challenge:
Having decided to leave Real after winning his third C1, Zidane wanted a break. Far from football, the technician has been very rare in recent months, and has not succumbed to the temptation to return to the bedside of a Real Madrid to the trouble. After the failure Julen Lopetegui, Santiago Solari took over, refusing the comparison with ZZ.
After a period of rest, Zidane now seems ready to resume service. However, the coach is not expected to embark on a mid-season club affair, so coming to Manchester next summer seems a possibility. After an interim by Michael Carrick, Zizou would arrive in the best conditions at the end of the year, to start on a new basis.
C1 as a condition?:
If other names are cited on Tuesday to take over from José Mourinho, Zidane appears as the favorite of course. But will the coach come at any price? In addition to the salary requirements, which are rarely a problem for Manchester United, the sporting challenge could be problematic in case of non-qualification of the Reds for the Champions League.
Very badly embarked in the championship, United will face PSG in the knockout stages of C1, before potentially having to get rid of other cadors. The final victory is far from being considered, and it remains the Premier League to win a place in the Champions League. This is coming to be Michael Carrick’s mission this season.
